How to Apply
We are no longer accepting applications for the 2008 Uno and Victoria Fringe Theatre Festivals -with the exception of Fringe Bring-Your-Own Venues (application below). Check back in september for our 2009 deadllines. Details and downloads for each festival can be found on this page.
Applying for the Fringe
The Victoria Fringe is an annual late-summer event that is part of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals. We accept applications within three regional categories: 50% Local (BC), 35% Other North American, and 15% Overseas.
The Fringe is an "umbrella" event featuring up to 45 international performing companies (theatre, dance, comedy, spoken word, cabaret, etc) who bring their fully-produced work to the festival. Companies are responsible for all of their own production costs and their transportation to come to the festival.
We provide six scheduled perfomances, listing in the Fringe program guide, a venue, technical equipment, a technician, ticket services, box office volunteers, and free billeting for visiting artists in local homes. Participants receive 100% of their box office revenue (maximum ticket price $9).
Applications are available in October for the following summer. Companies provide basic contact and show information, and an aplication fee ($450+ GST in 2007).
Participants were selected by lottery at a public party on November 16 a the Metro Studio. Only the companies drawn pay their application fee up front. Other applicants go on regional waiting lists and their fee is not deposited until we can offer them a spot in the festival.
DEADLINE: The 08 Fringe Application Deadline is now past. However you can browse the following to prepare yourself for next year, or consider Bringing Your Own Venue to the 2008 Fringe:
Applying for Uno
Unlike the Fringe, Uno is a juried or curated festival. We only consider one-person shows for the event. Shows are selected based on materials sent to us by applicants: DVDs, press kits, reviews, etc. Applications are available in October and the deadline is in early December. The application fee is $35 for all applicants. A panel adjudicates the submission in December and the results are announced in January. We pay a guaranteed fee, transportation, and accommodation, and provide technical and promotional support.
We only consider previously, recently produced solo work for the Uno Festival.
We also stress the importance of having video documentation of your show for your Uno submission. Half of the adjudication criteria is based on the performance, so if we can't see your performance, extremely difficult for the jury to consider your show.
DEADLINE: The deadline for 2008 has past. If you want to prepare for next year you can...
