WHY DONATE?

Intrepid Theatre is a charitable, non-profit organization that contributes to the vibrancy of our city by developing work by talented emerging artists, presenting alternative theatre from around the globe, and providing affordable venues for local performers, and creating free public events for people of all ages. We are able to do this because of the generous support provided by individual donors who believe in the importance of live theatre. When you make a charitable, tax-receiptable contribution to Intrepid Theatre, you’re not only supporting the artists, programs and venues you love, you’re also showing our sponsors and government funders that you care about what we’ve accomplished over the past 27 years.

WHY NOW?

At the moment, you’ll be happy to hear that our government funding is stable for 2013, and we’ve even received increased support from the CRD and BC Arts Council this year – hooray! As you can imagine, competition for grants is very tough, and when we get even a little more, it’s a big vote of confidence for Intrepid. But we do have an annual individual fundraising campaign that is vital to our operations (around $25,000 of our $900,000 budget), and in 2013 we’re launching into the next phase of capital upgrades to the Metro Studio, including renovating a ground-floor washroom to make it accessible, and installing and HVAC system to deal with the the heat and provide a breath of cool crisp air – if you’ve been in the Metro for Uno or the Fringe, you know what we’re talking about! Although we are partnering with the Victoria Conservatory of Music to make this happen, we still need to raise about $70,000 this spring, in order to have everything done this summer in time for Fringe. We’re kicking off our Raise the Roof! Fundraising efforts with a visit from real Canadian Superheroine Marg Delahunty, Princess Warrior (aka Mary Walsh, in her solo show Dancing with Rage) on Feb 19, 2013, and you’ll be hearing more about our fun events and a new super-cool donor recognition area in the Metro.

WHY DONATE ONLINE THROUGH CANADAHELPS.ORG?

We love getting donations online via Canada Helps, for a bunch of reasons. Their 3.4% transaction fee is only very slightly higher than fee we pay if you phone in a donation and we process it on our credit card terminal (2.9%). The additional benefit to us in using Canada Helps is it allows you to print your own tax receipt instantly (which reduces our admin time a lot,) and gives us clear an accountable annual records to submit with our annual federal charity tax returns. So while you could avoid the fees altogether by making a donation by cheque or cash, or that jar of pennies, (which of course would be welcome!) we’re just as happy to pay an extra .5% so that you get your receipt in a timely manner, and we have more time to work delivering the art!
