COLLECTION #3: HEADDRESS Choreographed and Performed by Yvonne Ng / Tiger Princess Dance Projects (Toronto) - (20 min)

THE WHOLE BEAST
Choreographed and Performed by Lee Su-feh / Battery Opera (Vancouver) - (55 min)
Two new solo dance works are featured in the second annual UnoDanz program, curated by Suddenly Dance Theatre. Both pieces are shown each night.
COLLECTION #3: HEADDRESS by Yvonne Ng is inspired and influenced by Chinese opera and street opera. The work features a symbolic headdress decorated with gifts from friends, loved ones, mentors and relatives. As one part of a collection of self-portraits, the dance depicts a balancing act between opposing worlds - traditional and modern, divine and corporeal. princessproductions.ca
THE WHOLE BEAST is a new solo work by Lee Su-Feh. In this work, the dancer is butcher, meat, cook and the cooked. Mining the singularity of her own body, Lee makes connections from bone and tissue to memory, dreams, and desires. With fine precision and startling intimacy, Lee carves the spaces in and around the body, uncovering recipes and stories along the way, offering up a view of a life shaped and affected by food, love and loss. THE WHOLE BEAST premiered March 2008 at the Festival Les Antipodes, Brest, France. Lee Su-Feh is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and artistic director of battery opera. Described as "sexy, propulsive, deeply metaphorical" Victoria audiences will remember her work in Spektator (2003) and Storm (2007). batteryopera.com

My Name is Rachel Corrie (Enhanced Reading)

from the writings of Rachel Corrie
edited by Alan Rickman and Katherine Viner
Neworld Theatre (Vancouver BC)
Read by Adrienne Wong, Directed by Marcus Youssef
Director of Original Production: Sarah Garton Stanley
Stage Manager: Dani Fecko Photographs: Jon Elmer
Passionate, sometimes irreverent and always intelligent, My Name is Rachel Corrie explores an extraordinary young woman's singular experience in a region most of us only know from the news. Rachel Corrie sought to discover for herself the human impact of her own country's foreign policies on people thousands of miles from her home.
In June 2006, Neworld Theatre staged a community reading of My Name is Rachel Corrie, featuring 10 readers ranging from 10 to 60 years old, men, women and children. In December 2007, they co-produced a full production with Montreal-based Teesri Duniya Theatre. In February 2008, Vancouver audiences lined up for hours at the Havana Theatre on Commercial Drive. For Uno Fest, Neworld Theatre brings a one-night-only reading, an adaptation of the production that brings to life the passion, wit and wisdom of Rachel's words.
